ALL ABOUT MRS. TILLMANAs an art teacher, I get to have fun every day doing the thing that I love, making art. I have been very lucky to find my home at Geisler Middle School. Previous to Geisler, I taught at Northern, Western and Central High Schools. Teaching everything from Art in Design to AP Drawing, but my heart has always been in Photography and Graphic Design.
I am blessed with an amazing husband and 2 wonderful children Ella and Ethan who keep me on track. They inspire my desire to study art and technology, to read a variety of novels and geek my self out to many awesome tv shows from anime to drama. I grew up in a small town just outside of Grand Rapids. I attended Michigan State University for my Bachelors of Fine Arts in Photography and Graphic Design. I then attended Eastern Michigan University for Art Education. Finally, choose to finished it all up at the University of Michigan for a Masters in Special Education. I am very passionate about education and believe that education should be a place for all students. I believe that every student is an artist just in different places. This means that I teach primarily with creativity and choice. Because of this, I was invited to attend a conference at the LAB School of Washington D.C. on the Power of Art in the classroom. This was a transformative event that has changed my entire view of education and the impact that we can have on our students. This year I begin working as board member for MACUL (Michigan Association for Computer users in Learning). I am working with the amazing Tech in Ed group to explore new ways to bring technology education to teachers. This year I am conference chair for the 2023 MACUL conference. You can check out our amazing work here on the MACUL.org webpage. You will notice that this year I will choose to wear a mask all year. In 2015 I was diagnosed with the Crohn's disease. Last year my mom was diagnosed with peritoneal cancer. Because I have a low immune system, I am choosing to wear a mask to protect myself and my family. |
